Stuttgart Emus 5.12.42
Berlin Crocodiles 3.4.22
Stuttgart defeats the Crocs for the first time!
First game for the Crocs:
David Wheaton
Ryan Picone
Match Report:
After “Magic” Marvin’s late drop out, 15 Crocs made their way down to Stuttgart for the first game of the season against the Emus. The team arrived in Stuttgart early, giving enough time for an intense briefing by coach Troy in the shade. Tony made his way to Stuttgart himself to support the team which he did in a great way!
Rob, a great Aussie new recruit from the Emus, helped out the crocs who were playing with 16 players on ground on no bench against a full Emus squad with a bench of 4.
The match was close from the beginning, both teams fought hard – 30 degrees, lots of running, lots of sweat. After 3 quarters, the score was almost even. The last quarter showed how important it is to have a bench, especially under these conditions – while the crocs were getting more and more tired, the Emus took advantage and scored 3 goals in the last quarter, leading to a 42-22 victory over the hard fighting crocs.
The coach asked every player for their and the teams performance on their match. Of course each player was not happy with the loss, but the disappointing side was a team average of 3.5 out of 10. This number didn’t justify how well the team played a hard style on a subpar football pitch. But the same words repeated from each player……..fitness, training! Rock being the only exception to the fitness.
One match lost is not the season but, it will make it very hard if we lose another this week at home.
Best Players:
Scott Lanigan, Geordie Dostal, Steffen Risse
Goals:
Coach 2, Rob 1 (Stuttgart)
Highlights:
- Worst coffee in the world bought at the highway on the way to Stuttgart, returned on the way back at midnight with a message on it
- Ryan’s singing skills on the way back and placing his bag in vomit on the way
- Lots of shit talking during the 12 hours on the bus, also thanks to the walkie talkies (mayday mayday)
Lessons:
- Training!!
- Numbers – no bench in 30 degrees was what killed us. Ninja fell on his injured shoulder but could not go off in order to not let the team down
- Fitness
